The Supreme Court has again retreated that it will decide if Aadhar card is mandatory or not for filing the tax. The Apex court said “How can you make Aadhaar card mandatory when we have passed an order to make it optional?”
The government states that people use multiple PAN card to route funds and escape the taxation and hence they found to make Aadhar card mandatory for each person. Earlier, the Central Government said that providing one’s Aadhaar number a compulsory detail for filing IT returns and for obtaining and retaining the permanent account number (PAN).
The finance ministry states that Aadhar card will resolve the problem for those who make multiple PAN card and avoid taxation. However, Supreme Court remained strict on its previous order and said that Aadhaar cannot be made mandatory for government schemes and also said that the Union of India shall give wide publicity in the electronic and print media including radio and television networks that it is not mandatory for a citizen to obtain an Aadhaar card. The production of an Aadhaar card will not be condition for obtaining any benefits otherwise due to a citizen.
Now it is a matter of time that we will see whether Aadhar card is mandatory or not.
