Legal entities under GST
GST registration can be acquired by every person supplying goods or services. However, we shall discuss the brief procedure for applying the GST number for the following entities:
- Private limited company
- Proprietorship
- LLP/Partnership
- Society/ trust/ NGO

Applying GST Number for Private Limited Company
The GST registration requirements for One Person Company (OPC) and private limited company are similar to each other and hence, we shall explain the complete procedure together. The procedure for getting GST number for the private limited company is as follows:
- Company details: The details like state, district and pan number of the company have to be provided. You will be required to provide a phone number and email ID for OTP verification. Further, you shall need to keep the scan copies of the following documents:
- Photo of the directors
- Certificate of registration
- Copy of cancelled cheque
- Board resolution
- Electricity bill and NOC
- Business information: This is the first page of the application. The details required in this are ward/circle/sector number along with the commissioner code of the premises.
- Personal information: The personal information of all the directors is necessary to be updated like name, pan number, and date of birth. Among all the directors one has to be made the authorized signatory for GST and hence, he should be authorized through a board resolution. Hence the document to be attached to this page is
- Photo
- Board resolution
- Place of business: The place of business is the official business address of the company. In case the company has more than one place of business then they need to add all the address in additional place of business. Documents attached to this page is
- Electricity bill (if owned premises)
- NOC/ rent agreement (if rented premises)
- Bank details: The detail of the current bank account has to be provided. The details to provide our account number, IFSC code, and type of account. The document to be attached is canceled cheque or bank statement.
- Submit and follow-up: Once all the documents are completed, you need to submit the application and then follow up for the rest of the procedure.
Applying GST Number for LLP/ Partnership or society/trust
The requirement for GST number for partnership, society, and trust is similar and hence we have explained them together. Here are the details:
- Partnership details: The details like state, district and pan number of the company has to be provided. You will be required to provide a phone number and email ID of the partner for OTP verification. Further, you shall need to keep the scan copies of the following documents:
- Photo of the Partners
- Partnership deed
- Copy of cancelled cheque
- Authorisation letter
- Electricity bill and NOC
- Business information: Here you are required to provide the ward/sector/unit no of the company’s address with commissioner and division code. Other details like the date of commencement have to be provided.
- Personal information: The personal information of all the Partners is necessary to be updated like name, pan number, and DOB. Among all the partners one has to be made the authorized signatory here on this page of the application. The documents to be attached are
- Photo
- Letter of authorization
- Place of business: The place of business is the address from where the firm is working. In case the firm has more than 1 place of business then they need to add all the address in additional place of business. Documents required here are
- Electricity bill (if owned premises)
- NOC/ rent agreement (if rented premises)
- Bank details: The detail of the current bank account has to be provided. The details to provide our account number, IFSC code, and type of account. The document to be attached is canceled cheque or bank statement.
- Submit and Follow-up: After filling the information, submit the application with Digital signature or by OTP verification. After submission, kindly follow-up for the registration.
Getting GST Number for Proprietorship
This is one of the most famous forms of business where GST registration is applied. Let us understand the brief GST procedure for this form of business as well.
- Proprietorship details: The details in a proprietorship are different than a company or firm. Although here as well the details like state, district etc. Further, since proprietorship does not have separate PAN number, the pan number of the owner/proprietor has to be provided. You will be required to provide a number and email ID for OTP verification. Further, you shall need to keep the scan copies of the following documents:
- Photo of the Proprietor
- Electricity bill, NOC
- Copy of cancelled cheque
- Business information: Here you are required to provide the ward/sector/unit no of the company’s address with commiserate and division code. No attachment is required here in this page in case of the proprietor.
- Personal information: The personal information of the proprietor is necessary to be updated like name, pan number, and DOB. The document uploaded here is passport size photograph.
- Place of business: The place of business is the address of the firm.In case a person has more than 1 place of business then they need to add all the address in additional place of business. Here it is required to attach either
- Electricity bill (if owned premises)
- NOC/rent agreement (if rented premises)
- Bank details: The detail of the account of the proprietor has to be provided. The details to provide our account number, IFSC code, and type of account. The document to be attached is canceled cheque or bank statement.
- Submit and follow-up: Once the application is prepared, the same is submitted and then you need to follow up for GST number.
