How do I get an import/export license in India to do business with China or any other country?

Import export license or IEC code is the first step towards the business of import or export with China or any other country. There is no difference in export or import procedure while dealing with any country including China, USA, and Dubai etc.

The export and import process has been simplified to the vary extent, the set of documents has also been reduced from 8 to 4, further the whole process has been online.

The process of getting the import export license in India is as follows:

 

1. Collect all the necessary documents: The first step in getting the IEC license, you must collect all the four mandatory documents which are as follows:

• Copy of PAN Card
• Passport size Photograph
• Cancelled Cheque
• Copy of Identity Proof  (Voter ID, Aadhaar Card, Passport, DL)

 

2. Get Digital Signature: To file the IEC code online, you must carry the class 2 digital signature with you. The cost of getting the 2 years DSC is around INR 1,000/-.

 

3. Create Account: Create your Account on dgft.gov.in. Once you have created the account on DGFT using your mobile and email, then start filing the ANF form.

 

4. Fill all details correctly: Make sure you prepare and file documents in such a way, that it avoids any chance of being rejected. IEC application gets most rejection as compared to any other registration.

 

5. Upload Documents: Documents should be uploaded properly. They must be correct in every format, to avoid any chance of being rejected.

 

6. Pay the Government fees: After completing the above formalities, pay the government fees of INR 500 per submission. IEC file gets rejected 3 to 4 time on an average. Further, for every new submission, this fees is required to be paid. Hence, professional advice is recommended.

 

7. Sign with DSC: After filing the required details and uploadation of documents, sign and submit the application to the government authority.

 

8. Approval or rejection: Always keep a tracking the status of the application.
